“The Weekend (Girlfriend)” snippet review
So, JJ being the BAMF he is, is letting me review the first 60 seconds of a ‘The Weekend (Girlfriend)’ and I gotta say:
It fucking bangs.
The story follows JJ as he describes his effort to get a lady home with him for only one short weekend. Starting with the most infectious electro bass tune and electronic high hat, the song automatically takes a Tokyo Techno turn for the good.
And then he hits you. He hits you with that familiar voice and it pops off instantly.
Now, JJ takes a minor break from from his usual of intricately laced lyrical genius for something a little more straight forward than his standard of intertwining metaphor with visual overload.
He says “I just wanted to open it kinda lazily… almost ironically, since i’m such a lyrical dude most of the time.”
Though the party track may not be as lyrical deep and some of his previous pieces, it shows his ability to write an incredibly catchy song, reminiscent of his Funeral Disco days. In fact, it brings back the same feeling musically, yet his voice has taken on a new life of it’s own, full of charisma and cadence. JJ’s way of inflicting emotions on you still remains as potent as ever as he places you in his head and guides you in the song thought by thought.

Jealous fella tell us how they wanna beat us up
girls eat us up, but only one got my attention…”
He flips his words in a way that we’ve actually never heard him do before (except in the freestyle he did on webcam for his fans on his facebook fan page, but we can’t all be as crazed a fan as I am.) The song’s exciting new sound, under JJ’s spell, along with his exceptional techniques and nicely driven hook (which sounds oddly like it may feature that fellow JaySpizzy from DAPL doing some vocal work) will all have an impact on you that you generally don’t get from songs of this genre. But once again JJ has proven that he can take what we thought we knew about pop music and turn it on it’s head. And speaking of head, you can count this getting stuck in yours. Almost dangerously so. The last moment before it fades out, just as the 2nd verse starts, you can hear things take an eviler, more Demonic turn. I heard one minute of this song and can already tell that this is next level pop/rap/electro/hiphop/whateverthefuck. But the scariest part is…JJ Demon may also have a legitimate hit on his hands.
A track worth waiting for and a track worth paying for.
